Broke Dealers is a pixel art collection launching on Robinhood Chain. Every piece is
an office worker having a bad quarter.
The name is the joke. Broker-dealer is the regulated term for a firm that trades
securities both for clients and for its own account
The category the big platforms operate under. Take one letter out and the most
institutional phrase in retail finance becomes a description of the person holding the
bag.
Rich in deals, broke in stocks.
They are always dealing. They are just not very good at it.
The lore
When stocks moved onto the blockchain, every trading floor was supposed to close.
Almost all of them did. One didn’t.
It’s a small brokerage on a low floor of a building nobody remembers building.
Someone paid the rent decades in advance, then lost their job, and nobody has
thought about the place since.
The lights stay on because there’s nobody left with the authority to switch them off.
The screens still show prices. The coffee machine still works, mostly. And every
morning, the dealers still show kup.
They watch charts that only go down. They wear the same tired suits. They make
trades they couldn’t explain to anyone, and there’s nobody left to ask.
They lose so little money that nobody notices.
